Primary Education
There are seven public elementary schools and two high schools in the Washington Unified School District. Southport Elementary School was built in July 1998 and features computer labs, library and Internet connections in the classrooms. Construction has begun on Bridgeway Lakes Elementary School, the second elementary school to serve the rapidly growing Southport area. Community leaders demonstrated their commitment to quality education with a successful campaign approving $25 million in local school bonds in 1996. Local school scores continue to rise each year in the Washington School District. In 2002, both Southport Elementary School and Westmore Oaks Elementary received the California Distinguished Schools Award.
